Caribbean Universities Project for Integrated Distance Education: Public Forum/International Video Conference on Collaboration in Distance Education
On June 15, 2007 the University of Technology will host UNESCO, Embassy of Japan & Four Partner Universities in the Caribbean Universities Project for Integrated Distance Education (CUPIDE) , at an Awards Ceremony for UTech & UWI Faculty & Staff as well as a Public Forum/International Video Conference on Collaboration In Distance Education .

The University of Technology, Jamaica, one of the five member institutions of the Caribbean Universities Project for Integrated Distance Education (CUPIDE), will be hosting an awards ceremony for UTech and University of the West Indies staff and faculty members who participated in workshops on the use of distance learning software on Friday, June 15, 2007, from 9:30 to 12:30 p.m at the Technology Innovation Centre Conference Room at UTech. There will also be a special dialogue involving representatives of the World Bank; Caribbean Knowledge and Learning Network, the Commonwealth of Learning and the Pan American Health Organisation, through live video conferencing on the theme: Collaboration in Distance Education as a Strategy for National & Regional Development: Imperatives, Challenges and Opportunities.
In attendance and making special presentations will be Embassy of Japan representatives, UNESCO Programme Manager for Education, CARICOM, UWI, UTech and joint partners in CUPIDE Universities of Haiti, Suriname and Guyana.
CUPIDE is a collaborative initiative involving the University of the West Indies (UWI) as the implementing agency and the University of Guyana (UG), University Quisqueya (UniQ) in Haiti, Anton de Kom University of Surniname (AdeKUS) and UTech as co-beneficiaries. It is funded through UNESCO by the Japanese Funds-in-Trust for Capacity Building with the objective of building the human resource capacity within the region through enabling each of the five participating universities to develop and deliver quality distance education programmes through information and communication technologies. The implementation of CUPIDE is monitored by a Project Advisory Committee (PAC), which is chaired by CARICOM.
