This article of the Encyclopedia of Global Environmental Change focuses on indigenous knowledge: it tries to give a definition of this concept and shows how it can and should be integrated in environmental projects. It includes two case studies: the Aboriginal fire regimes and the swidden cultivations of the Karen people in Thailand.
