Mountain forests are vital for the ecological health of the world. They shelter immense biodiversity, provide food and fodder and are important sources of forest products. Importantly, mountain forests also protect the watersheds that supply fresh water - the fresh water that more than half of humanity depends on to grow food, generate energy and, more importantly, to drink.
