Streams and rivers are bodies of water, either permanent or temporary, that move continuously in one direction. They develop in the lowest topographic area of the landscape, which is eroded and sculpted by water flowing through it. Well-watered regions (temperate and humid tropical areas) have permanent streams and large permanent rivers, while in drier regions temporary streams are more common.
