Contamination can come from many different sources such as garbage, urban runoff, including oil and grease from our roads, domestic or wild animal and human feces, pesticides and nitrates from home or agricultural operations, and environmental disasters etc.

Take a Dip , September 8 - November 14, 2003 Take A Dip is a collaborative project, comparing the water quality of your local river, stream, lake or pond with other fresh water sources around the world. The focus of the project is:
To assess the quality of water based on physical characteristics and chemical substances.
To Identify and compare organisms in a water sample with other participating classes and assess the quality of water based on macroscopic life found in the water.
To look for relationships, trends, similarities, and differences among the data collected by all project participants
This project is recommended for middle school students (ages 10-14) due to the nature of the tests required for the project however all students are welcome to participate. There is NO fee to participate. Language(s) English
